Fed: Ansett staff worried about jobs

A union says staff at Ansett Airlines are worried about their jobs after the company
offered voluntary redundancies en masse.

About 11,000 Ansett and 9,000 former Air New Zealand staff this week received memos
offering redundancies, following the merger of the two airlines in June.

The Australian Services Union says the company has given no indication how many job
cuts are required.

ASU assistant national secretary LINDA WHITE says staff morale is down and some staff
will leave because they are fed up.

Ansett spokeswoman JO FORD is unable to put a figure on how many redundancies are required,
saying there is no overall target, and that the redundancies are voluntary.
